Theme Concerts

The Weekly Radio Concert series present themed shows of Beethoven, Brahms, Shanghai-flavored jazz and famous Oscar film music performed by major city orchestras twice a week. Shanghai Media Group¡¯s FM 94.7 will broadcast the performances live.

'Affinity'

The group exhibition of emerging Chinese and German artists- Chen Bo, Guan Yong, Li Jikai, Lin Yin, Nik Nowak and Felix Wunderlich- takes a look at counterpoints in contemporary figurative painting. Each artist reinterpret the history of figurative painting, whether in society, politics or simply the relations among people.

Nigerian Artist

Yinka Shonibare¡¯s solo exhibition tells a story about a mix of cultures. Shonibare is a painter, photographer, film maker and installation artist whose work is influenced by the culture of Nigeria, where he grew up, and England, where he studied and now resides.

Zhejiang Artists

For the past 20 years, the neighboring province of Zhejiang has being fostering a great number of artists and formed its own distinctive¡°Zhejiang school.¡±The exhibition reviews some of the best painters, including Wang Bomin, Gu Shengyue, Li Zihou and Shao Binkun.

Classical Guitar

The Romero brothers will stage a concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Romeros quartet. Dubbed as the "royal family of guitar," Pepe will lead Celin, Lito and Celino for a wonderful night of classical guitar music.

Singing for Leslie

Leslie Cheung, who committed suicide in 2003 in Hong Kong, was a legendary figure in the Chinese pop music scene. His emotional voice and delicate acting skills won him millions of fans around the world. To commemorate the late star, mega-stars Jacky Cheung, Maggie Cheung and Karen Mok, all his good friends, will present a concert dedicated to him.

Priscilla Chan

Chan, a female Cantopop singer in Hong Kong, started her life as a professional singer when she was 18 in 1983 and became famous in the late 1980s. Chan chose to retire in 1989 in order to pursue her degree in psychology at the Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. She made a comeback in 1992 with the successful launch of several very popular songs, such as "Thousands of Songs," "Snowfall" and "Red Tea Shop" which will hopefully be performed during her Shanghai concert.

Emil Chau

The Hong Kong-born, Taiwan-based pop singer got known through the 1980s-90s. As of August 2007, he has released more than 40 albums and held many international concert tours. The balladist is popular for his lyrical and romantic songs exploring love and life.

Jeff Chang

The Taiwanese pop singer is known for his high-pitched voice. Famous for sentimental love songs, Chang is dubbed as the "Prince of Love Ballads." Ever since the release of his debut album in 1989, his greatest hits such as "Hard to Resist Your Charm," "A Little Bit Touched" and "Going Too Far" have been popular for a decade.

Lee-hom Wang

Born in Rochester, New York, the Taiwan-based pop singer is known for his distinctive fusion of East and West elements in his songs. One of his most notable contributions to Mandopop was the introduction of "chinked-out" music, a genre heavily influenced by traditional Chinese music. His latest album "Change Me" is dedicated to raising eco-awareness among Chinese youth.

Ayumi Hamasaki
