By the end of 2008 the city’s parks and greenbelts amounted to 34,300 hectares. Of the total, 14,800 hectares were public green areas. The average per-capita green area reached 12.51 square meters in the city, and the green coverage reached 38% of the city’s total territory, com- pared to 37.6% in 2007. In recent years, the city had built many large green areas, including the Yanzhong Greenbelt, Huangxing Park, Xujiahui Park, Yanhong Greenbelt, Expo Forest, the first phase of the Riverside Forest Park and Guangzhong Greenbelt.
