Upon verification, the applicants present required, valid certificates and credentials, the Agreement is in line with relevant requirements, then register on the scene and issue certificate of divorce; if the applicants do not meet the divorce requirements, it will not get handled and inform the applicants of the reasons in written form.

(1) Apply for divorce on the voluntary basis;
(2) Reach agreement on the settlement of children fostering, property, debt, etc.;
(3) With the original marriage registered in China;

(4) Both applicants shall have full civil capacity;

(5) Both apply for the divorce registration and obtain the certificate of divorce at Shanghai Municipal Marriage (Adoption) Registration Center;

(I) For Shanghai Resident:
(1) Permanent residence book and resident ID card;
(2) Certificate of marriage;
(3) Agreement of voluntary divorce signed by both parties.

(II) For resident in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan:
(1)Resident ID card and pass for transit from Hong Kong, Macao to the Mainland or seaman card or certificate of Taiwan compatriot;
(2) Certificate of marriage;
(3) Agreement of voluntary divorce signed by both parties.

(III) For overseas Chinese, foreigner

(1) Passport or other valid certificates for international traveling;
(2) Certificate of marriage;
(3) Agreement of voluntary divorce signed by both parties.

Note: Each party submits two recent passport-size 2 inch photos (full face without hat);

Show credentials and certificates→fill out Agreement of Voluntary Divorce, Divorce Registry Application→verification and check by the marriage registration authority, issue the certificate of divorce.

According to the mentioned regulation (No. 249 by the National Price Bureau and the Ministry of Finance in 1992), service charge for divorce registry is RMB 10 /case.
