Upon verification, the applicants present required, valid certificates and
credentials, the Agreement is in line with relevant requirements, then register
on the scene and issue certificate of marriage; if the applicants do not meet
the marriage requirements, it will not get handled and inform the applicants of
the reasons in written form.
Eligible applicants shall: (1) Both reach the legal marital age, i.e. no
earlier than 22 for male, no earlier than 20 for female (2) Both are
voluntary and single
(3) Either of them shall have the permanent residence of Shanghai (4)
Without the relationship of linear consanguinity or of collateral consanguinity
within the third generation each other (5) Both have no diseases leading to
prohibition or postponement of marriage by law (6) Either of them shall be a
Shanghai resident with permanent residence
(7) Both apply for the marriage registration and obtain the certificate of
marriage at Shanghai Municipal Marriage (Adoption) Registration Center;
(I) For Shanghai Residents: (1) Permanent residence books and resident ID
cards;
(2) Signed testimonial of marital status (unmarried, divorce or bereft) and
of no relationship of linear consanguinity or of collateral consanguinity within
the third generation with the other party ( fill out the unified declaration at
the Registration Center)
(II) For resident in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan:
(1) Taiwan resident ID card, pass for transit from Taiwan to the Mainland and
travel pass issued by embassy or consulate of China.
(2) Certificate of unmarried status of the applicant notarized by notary
office and the declaration of no relationship of linear consanguinity or of
collateral consanguinity within the third generation with the other party (valid
for 6 months).
(III) For overseas Chinese
(1) Valid passport;
(2)The testimonial of marital status and of no relationship of linear
consanguinity or of collateral consanguinity within the third generation with
the other party, issued by the notary office or authorities of one¡¯s home
country and confirmed by the embassy or consulate of China in such country, or
the testimonial of marital status and of no relationship of linear consanguinity
or of collateral consanguinity within the third generation with the other party
issued by embassy or consulate of China in such country (valid for 6 months).
(IV) For foreigner
(1)Passport or other valid certificates for international traveling;
(2)The testimonial of marital status issued by the notary office or
authorities of one¡¯s home country and confirmed by the embassy or consulate of
China in such country, or embassy or consulate of such country to China, or the
testimonial of marital status issued by embassy or consulate of China in such
country (valid for 6 months).
Note:
1. If the certificate is in foreign languages, then the Chinese translated
version produced by qualified translation institutions shall be provided.
2. The applicants shall submit 3 big-2 inch recent double photos (half figure
without hat). Plural marriage shall be handled according to the above
regulations.

Application¡úverification and check by the marriage registration authority, issue
the certificate of marriage.

Registration
According to the mentioned regulation (No. 249 by the National Price Bureau
and the Ministry of Finance in 1992), service charge for marriage registry is
RMB 9 /case.
