The exam is both oral and written.
1. Written exam:
The exam for single-language or Chinese language only tour guides covers policies and laws, ethics, vocational skill and basic knowledge of how to be a tour guide.
The written exam for bilingual or foreign language tour guides covers all the subjects as above, plus an English language proficiency test.
2 Oral exam:
The oral exam requires candidates to demonstrate their knowledge and communication skills on the spot, including presentation, service skills and behavior, and problem solving and crisis handling.
For the bilingual or foreign language candidates, presentation in that language is required.
Note: Graduate students with English degrees are exempt from the written exams.
