For Shanghai residents:

From September 1st, 2002, method of applying for a passport according to the applicant’s need is practiced. By then, applicants can file in an application and get a passport with a simplified and fast way as far as they follow the regulations in going through the procedures.

1. To complete and submit an Application Form for Passport pasted with a 2’’full-faced colored picture for the use of certificate on mirror side photographic paper(with a dimension of being 48×33mm, and white color as its background), attached with three other pictures of the same dimension;

2. To submit the photocopies of residential registration booklet (or original of the certification on registered residence) and ID card, presenting their originals for examination. Applicants with a social security card should also present their social security card for examination.

3. Persons with the following (special identities) should also submit the written opinions from their work units:

（1）Officials in the municipal department who are incumbent or retired (with honor);

（2）Officers on department level in all organs including people’s organizations of worker, youth and women, as well as those from democratic parties;

（3）Those working on the key posts at enterprises and public institutions related to the state politics, economy, security and commercial secrete, and finance, taxation, scientific research and education, etc;

（4）Those working at Shanghai-based units under direct control of the central government, or those at units of other provinces, municipalities or autonomous regions stationed in Shanghai.

Where applicants are younger than 16 years or older than 70 years, their father or mother or legal guardian shall go for the application on their behalf:

The factor shall have the photocopies of the papers certifying his or her legal guardianship, and the originals shall also be checked;

Certifications refer to: in case the parents and the minor belong to the same registered residence, residential registration booklet of parents and their ID cards are needed; in case the parents and the minor do not belong to the same registered residence, birth certificate of the minor (or his certificate on only child of the couple), residential registration booklet of his parents or guardian, marriage certificates of his parents, or legal documents or notarial deed certifying the lawful guardianship of the guardian are needed.

For ordinary passport, it is 200RMB per passport; it is 400RMB per passport for a reissued one; it is 20RMB for an endorsement or extension on period of validity.
