According to the Inheritance Law, the earnings from personal contracts are categorized as private property and can be inherited. In suburban areas in China, it usually takes at least ten years for a contract business to generate proceeds, so it is not uncommon for contractors  to die within the term of the contract. In such cases proceeds go to the heir.
