Under what conditions must a traveler declare personal foreign exchange to the Customs Office?

Travelers shall declare personal foreign exchange to the Customs Office under the following conditions:

Non-residents who carry foreign cash equal to and above $5,000 USD. (nonresident includes foreigners, overseas Chinese, and compatriots of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan)

Residents who carry foreign cash equal to or in excess of $2,000 USD.
Persons who enter or exit the boundary many times in one day or for short periods are excluded from the group that must declare.

(2) The individual traveler who carries foreign cash equal to and above $5,000 USD is required to declare the amount to the Customs Office.
