The main duties of the Shanghai Municipal Supervisory Committee are:

1. To examine the problems of state administrative organs in observing and enforcing laws, rules, regulations and the people’s government’s decisions and orders;

2. To accept and hear the cases of accusing and informing against state administrative organs, civil servants and other personnel appointed by state administrative organs over the violation of administrative discipline;

3. To investigate and deal with the act of violating administrative discipline on the part of state administration organs, civil servants and other personnel appointed by state administrative organs;

4. To accept and hear the appeals made by civil servants and other personnel appointed by state administrative organs against the administrative sanctions imposed by the competent authorities, and other appeals to be accepted and heard by the supervisory organization as provided by laws and administrative rules and regulations;

5. Other duties to be fulfilled by the supervisory organization as provided by laws and administrative rules and regulations.
