Tang Dengjie, a senior engineer, Master of Business Administration and a graduate from Tongji University, was born in Jianhu County, Jiangsu Province, in June 1964. He is currently Vice Mayor of Shanghai.

Tang served successively as head of control section and manager of industrial engineering section of production project department of Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co. Ltd., vice manager of project and development department of Shanghai Automotive Industry General Co. (Group), general manager of Shanghai ZF Steering Co. Ltd., vice president of Shanghai Automotive Industry Co. (Group), vice Party secretary and president of Shanghai Electrical General Co. (Group), vice Party secretary of Shanghai Party Work Committee for Industry and director of Shanghai Economic Commission. He was elected Vice Mayor of Shanghai in Feb 2003.
