1. If an unemployed person from another city marries a returned Overseas
Chinese or the child of an Overseas Chinese resident in Shanghai, this person
and their child can be authorized to settle down in Shanghai if they live in
Shanghai long enough (seven years in the urban area, five years in the rural
area). If the other party from another province is female, she can be authorized
to bring her child, if the child is under a certain age (under the age of 16 or
still a middle school student), to settle down in Shanghai.
2. If a rural person from another province marries a returned Overseas
Chinese or the child of an Overseas Chinese resident in Shanghai, and if this
party and their child, apply to settle down in Shanghai at the spouse¡¯s
residence, the application should be processed according to the current rural
population residence policy.
3. If a Shanghai resident marries a returned Overseas Chinese, their child,
or the child of the Overseas Chinese of another province and his/her spouse
applies for registered permanent residence in Shanghai, it can be processed with
reference to the above regulation.
