How does an insurance participant handle the procedure of applying for a subsidy to assist their high medical expenses at their own private cost?
(02/21/2008)

If an insurance participant incurs medical expenses in Shanghai, he/she shall get the expenses reimbursed in the appropriate Medical Insurance institution or his/her original workplace organization located outside of Shanghai.

If the medical expenses at his/her own private cost (excluding the related charges) meet the standard of applying for a subsidy after the reimbursement, they may apply for the subsidy in their community Medical Assistance Service Point where his/her permanent residence is registered.

When applying for a subsidy, the applicant must provide his/her ID card, the original copy (or duplicate copy) of their medical expense receipts and the related documents, and must fill in a subsidy application form.
