The following certificates and documents are needed for the marriage
registration between a Shanghai citizen and a person identified as a Hong Kong
citizen, Macao citizen, Taiwan citizen, Overseas Chinese or foreigner:
1. Shanghai citizens
Personal registered residence booklet or certificate of the registered
residence and ID card (and Social Security Card, if applicable); the declaration
document stating the nonexistence of lineal descent or collateral consanguinity
within three generations between the two parties and their single status (the
declaration form is in unified format and available at the registration
authority).
2. Citizens of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan
Valid personal passport and ID card; the declaration document issued by the
local notarial office to state the nonexistence of lineal descent or collateral
consanguinity within three generations between the two parties and their single
status (the declaration document will remain valid for 6 months).
3. Overseas Chinese
Valid personal passport and ID card; the declaration document issued by the
local notarial office and authenticated by the local Chinese embassy (or
consulate) to state the nonexistence of lineal descent or collateral
consanguinity within three generations between the two parties and their single
status, or the declaration issued by the local Chinese embassy (or consulate) to
state the nonexistence of lineal descent or collateral consanguinity within
three generations between the two parties and their single status (the
certificate will remain valid for 6 months).
4. Foreigners
Valid personal passport or other travel document; the declaration document
issued by the local notarial office or authoritative organization and
authenticated by the local Chinese embassy (or consulate) to state the
nonexistence of lineal descent or collateral consanguinity within three
generations between the two parties and their single status, or the declaration
document issued by the embassy (or consulate) of their country in China to state
the nonexistence of lineal descent or collateral consanguinity within three
generations between the two parties and their single status (the certificate
will remain valid for 6 months).
Note:
(1) In the case of the documents being written in a foreign language, the
applicant must provide a Chinese version translated by an authorized party, and
(2) the applicants must provide three x 2-inch, color, bare-head couple
portrait photos, taken recently.
