What are the prerequisites for "employees engaged in special work" when applying for retirement?

The employees, as participants in the social comprehensive arrangement of basic urban insurance, must satisfy the following conditions when applying for retirement as an "employee engaged in special work":

(1) The¡°special work¡±is that as defined by the Ministry of Labor or the superintendent department in the industry, lasted for a certain period, and refers to the following standards:

(i) 10 years for overhead and over-burdensome physical labor;

(ii) 9 years for underground work or high-temperature work;

(iii) 8 years for other work harmful to the employee¡¯s health.

(2) 55 years of age for men and 45 years of age for women; and

(3) those with a term of service (including the period of payment) for 10 continuous years for those who began to work before the end of 1992 or with a period of service for 15 years for those who began to work after 1993; with the period of service (including the period of payment) for 15 continuous years and an actual period of payment, in conformity with the Shanghai urban insurance and medical insurance measures, for at least 5 years for self-employed persons and his/her helper or freelancer. The 5 years denotes the sum of the period of payment, which commenced as of 1993 and during which the payment of the workplace organization was counted in the personal account and the period of payment was during that time when the employee worked as a freelancer.

Note: For a person, who took on two or more types of special work at any stage, the actual terms of work for those two or more types of special work can be added together and the application for retirement refers to the stipulation of the special work with a longer term of service.
