During the business work days of the first week of January and July each year, applicants can submit their application to the Shanghai Municipal Culture and Broadcasting Bureau Handling Center (No. 709 Julu Road), along with their ID card and four color passport photos.

The means of the examination:

The examination is categorized into four ranks: first, second, third and fourth. Applicants can sing two songs of their own choice (one song from mainland China) and then they will be tested on a song that they have not prepared. Basic music theory will be examined. University graduates who majored in art do not have to take part in the music theory examination.
