Shanghai launches spokesperson system

The nationwide emergence of the spokesperson system at the local government level will establish a standard procedure for the release of government information and has demonstrated China's determination to increase transparency in its government operations.

Jiao Yang, female, is vice dean of the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality. Graduating from the Journalism Department of Fudan University, she has been working with the information management department for a long period. After six years in office as the vice dean of the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, Jiao is quite familiar with journalism as well as government work with the municipality.

She hosted the government press conferences during the SARS outbreak from May to June 2003, meeting the journalists each week.
