Han urges transformation of government functions
Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng said yesterday that Shanghai will further transform its government functions and adjust its development during a city conference drafting the Municipal Government Work Report.
The city government will improve its role in economic adjustment, market inspection and public service, Han said.
Top efficiency, top transparency and cheaper administrative charges will be the goals for next year.
Government reform should include streamlining approval processes and opening up information, focusing on areas such as public departments and budgets. Levels of Shanghai governments should improve their services to the public, he said.
Han also said that online service and approval platforms should be in place next year, administrative charges will be streamlined, and selected young officials in city-level government agencies will be transferred to posts at the grassroots, and vice versa. These transfers would help improve the performance of government officials and let them gain different experiences.
Han also stressed that difficulties should be resolved for poverty-stricken families.
