Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng yesterday voiced the city's full support for army construction when attending a discussion of Shanghai People's Congress deputies from the People's Liberation Army Shanghai Garrison.

He expressed gratitude to the garrison for their remarkable contributions to the city's development on behalf of the government and the people.

The good tradition of mutual support between the government, the people and the military should be maintained and promoted, Han said.

The army delegation put forward a series of proposals on national defense education and high-level cooperation on scientific research between government departments and the army.

The city government would conduct research on more cooperation with the garrison on talent exchange and other major projects, he added.
