Another 200 million RMB is to be invested in Shanghai to renovate old buildings so as to benefit 250,000 households

Old buildings built 20 years ago will be renovated during this and next year. On March 22nd, plan on comprehensive renovation of old housing was worked out. It is reported from the municipal housing land resources bureau that 200 million RMB will be invested this year for the comprehensive renovation work of old housing with an area of 11 million square meters, and 250,000 households living at the old public housing will benefit from the renovation.

Person in charge of House Refurnishing and Renovation Department from the municipal housing land resources bureau said, with investigation conducted by housing land resources organs on municipal and district level, we found public housing built before 1985 have not been renovated for a long time, which leads to peeling walls, leaking roof, blocked pipes and aging electrical wires, etc, in the housing. To improve living conditions of the old public housing, the government launches a three-year plan on housing comprehensive renovation. It is decided to complete renovation work on old public housing with a space of over 20 million square meters (elevators in the residential buildings are included) within inner and outer ring roads in three years.

It is introduced that on the basis of renovation work completed on old public housing of 6.9 million square meters, another 200 million RMB is to be invested to launch comprehensive renovation work for old public housing with an area of 11 million square meters, out of which, renovation will be done on residential districts without management, covering an area of 1.2 million square meters, number of elevators in residential buildings to be renovated amount to 291. In addition, roads in the residential districts will be improved and afforestation will be done in the comprehensive renovation work, so as to practically solve difficulties of residents living at the old public housing and upgrade quality of living environment for ordinary people. It is predicted that number of households benefiting from the work will reach 250,000.

To ensure quality of the comprehensive renovation work, the municipal housing land resources bureau will invite experienced superintend units and personnel, who are to be responsible for superintending on the spot the comprehensive renovation project, especially for concealed work. As for renovation on elevators, renovation contents and requirements will be set after the municipal housing elevator testing institute has done testing work on them.

It is reported that funds of comprehensive renovation is to be made up of allowance from housing land departments on municipal and district (county) levels and of maintenance fund from proprietors. What is different from previous time is that this year, the municipal housing land resources bureau has made some adjustment on fund allowance proportion: for residential districts without property management, the allowance from the municipal government will be adjusted to 40%, and the rest will be subsidized with a proportion of 30%.
