The Second Highway Between Shanghai and Nanjing Will Be Finished Next Month

10/29/2004

On the morning of July 20th, workers were making busy preparations for the completion of the second highway between Nanjing and Shanghai, one after the Hu-Ning Highway.

The 104-kilometer long Jiang Tai Highway is part of the Ning-Tai Highway (from Nanjing to Taichang). A highway network that connects the Yangtze River Dealta will be finished by the end of the month.

Jiang Tai Highway starts from Qing Yang in Jiang Yin city and then connects the Chang Chen Highway. It arrives in Shanghai after running through Zhng Jia Gang, Chang Shu and Tai Chang. Its completions mean that there will be a second highway between Shanghai and Nanjing. Businessmen who have run between Shanghai and Nanjing no longer have to worry about the traffic jam on the highway.

"The completion of Jiang Tai Highway can greatly reduce the traffic pressure on Hu Ning Highway and 312 State Expressway," Vice director-general Qian Guochao of the Jiang Su Provincial Traffic Department said.

It has been estimated that after the completion of the Jiang Tai Highwy, the driving time from Jiang Yin to Tai Chang will be reduced from the previous two hours to 50 minutes and the distance to Shanghai will be cut by 20 kilometers. It will only take Jin Jiang citizens one hour and twenty minutes to go to Shanghai, half an hour faster than if they go through Hu ing Highway.

At Jiang Yin City, where the Jiang Tai Highay and Xi Chen Highway meets Mr. Chen Guanging, director of the Planning Department of Jiang Tai Highway Project pointed at the high-speed vehicles and said, "In the future, trucks that come from Jiang Yin Yangtze River Bridge can go to Shanghai from here." By then, this traffic hub can separate the largest amount of traffic that enters Shanghai.

It is reported that in order to meet the huge traffic demand between Shanghai and Nanjing, the construction of a third highway is being planned.
