Ever since China opened up to the world in 1980's, the Shanghai Municipal Government, led by the Communist Party of China and the State Council, makes great effort to build the city into an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center. "The power of the government is entrusted by the people; the interest of people is above all," as Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng promise in his inaugural. Guided by the Shanghai Party Committee, the city's new leadership vows to strictly perform its official duties; to make significant progress in self-improvement, and to intensify the shift of its role from administrative to public service. From Increasing Number to Increasing Color. Large Number of Colored Arbor and Frutex Will Be Planted in Shanghai

On June 29th, the journalist saw during an afforestation demonstration event organized by Shanghai Municipal Afforestation Bureau that the¡°World Exposition Forest¡±at the foot of Lu Pu Bridge has been completed. Children who have just finished their examinations were playing in the woods. There are more than 27 types of newly planted trees with various carious. Such a scene indicated that the afforestation efforts in Shanghai have entered another stage.

The completion of¡°World Exposition Forest¡±at the foot of Lu Pu Bridge marks that the afforestation in Shanghai has shifted from increasing the amount of ordinary trees to increasing the number of various type of high-end trees. It is reported that after Shanghai becomes National Garden City, Shanghai Afforestation Bureau immediately started a new round of afforestation high-tech is also applied to tap the ecological, scenic and service functions of green areas. Right now, arbor trees with colored leaves are the priority so that the autumn and spring in Shanghai will be more colorful. At the same time, we will make better use of human resource, material and capital resources to plant trees that get used to the climate, soil and temperature in Shanghai.

Currently, 19 districts and counties have become the demonstration area for the planting of 36 types of arbor trees with color leaves. The trees are mainly local types, although there will be some imported types. Local citizens will be able to see various types of colorful trees. According to the general office of Shanghai Afforestation Bureau, by the end of June 29th, a total of 15 types of 2239 trees have been planted. Eight demonstration areas at the foot of Lu Pu Bridge, in Grand View Garden and He Ping Park has been established, covering a total of 21,700 square meters. The construction of another five demonstration areas is undergoing and another 23 demonstration areas will be built during the second half of this year.

The newly built¡°World Expo Forest¡±will become a nice place of relaxation for local citizens.
