Ever since China opened up to the world in 1980's, the Shanghai Municipal Government, led by the Communist Party of China and the State Council, makes great effort to build the city into an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center. With the cooperation and hardwork of Shanghai people, the city is progressing to its goal as a global metropolitan. The new team of leaders of the Shanghai government took office in February 2003. "The power of the government is entrusted by the people; the interest of people is above all," as Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng promise in his inaugural. Guided by the Shanghai Party Committee, the city's new leadership vows to strictly perform its official duties; to make significant progress in self-improvement, and to intensify the shift of its role from administrative to public service. The Shanghai government will build itself into a service government that would share with the people all their happiness and troubles; a solid responsible government that is efficient, honest and diligent; a law-abiding government that respects legal system and rules strictly and impartially.

Before the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Vice secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Wang Anshun visited Shanghai Youth Culture and Activity Center on the morning of June 18th and visited Shanghai Anti-drug Education Exhibition Hall together with some students.

Wang Anshun stressed that Youth League at various levels should give full play to its political and organization advantages and carry out anti-drug education with an attitude of protecting our country, nation and people. Anti-drug promotion should be strengthened so as to promote our anti-drug efforts and to ensure the health growth of youngsters. Wang Anshun looked through the cases, pictures, videos, models and other things exhibited. He pointed out that anti-drug combat is one that bears on state safety, economic development and social development. Youth Leagues at various levels should be fully aware of the seriousness of drug problems and the importance of anti-drug campaign from a political point of view. The decisions and deployment of CPC central committee and Shanghai Municipal Party Committee should be put at a most important position so that we can check the popularization of drugs, especially among youngsters. More attention should be paid to anti-drug promotion and education in primary and middle schools so that the youngsters will be aware of the damage that drug will cause to our society, family and public security. Youngsters should know they need to value life and reject drugs. Anti-drug education should be carried out at the level of kids so that they will establish a correct principle.

Since June 25th, the opening day of Shanghai Anti-Drug Education Exhibition Hall until the end of May this year, there have been a total of 232,400 visitors.
