To make the decision-making divisions of the government better make a survey
and formulate a relevant policy, and to assure the exactness and promptitude of
data source, Shanghai will make four large-scale investigations on conditions of
the city and the people from May 18th to the mid of June: Sample Investigation
on the Basic Conditions of Urban Residents in 2004, Investigation on the Urban
Labor Force, Follow-up Investigation on the Unemployment Rate in Shanghai's
Urban Area and Investigation on the Employment Condition of Graduates.
Shanghai Municipal Statistics Bureau revealed to the media on May 13th, that
on the basis of the demands of relevant ministries and commissions of the
central government, Shanghai municipal government will take this investigation
as an opportunity to have a grasp of the overall situation of the changes of the
labor force market in Shanghai, and to find out the economic and living
conditions of the group with difficulties such as the unemployed and the hot
spots of the employment situation, so that the government can "know the real
situation" and make policy decisions "closer to people". They will choose 10,000
households at random from the whole city, 18 districts and counties, about 150
villages and towns and streets, around 300 village (neighborhood) committees
included to make the investigations of Investigation on the Urban Labor Force,
Follow-up Investigation on the Unemployment Rate in Shanghai's Urban Area and
Investigation on the Employment of Graduates. The city investigation team of
Municipal Statistics Bureau will choose 300 households at random from all the
streets and some towns of the 19 districts and counties of Shanghai from the 1st
to 20th of June to make the investigation of "Sample Investigation on the Basic
Conditions of Urban Residents in 2004", and thus to know clearly the situations
of the residents and families in the urban area, such as population, income,
expenses, consumption, education, social security and so on. The investigation
will be carried out by the investigators visiting those families. The list of
the neighborhood committees to be investigated will be posted on the website of
