| To enable government decision makers to do a better job in working out
relevant policies and ensure prompt and accurate data, Shanghai is to launch
four large-scale investigations on city and citizen situations from May 16th to
the mid June: "Sampling Investigation on Basic Situation of Urban Residents in
2004", "Investigation on Urban Labor Force", "Follow-up Investigation on
Unemployment Rate in Urban Area" and "Investigation on Graduate Employment".
Shanghai Statistics Bureau revealed to the media on 13th, according to the
requirements from Central Government, Shanghai is to make use of the
investigation opportunity to have a complete understanding on changes of labor
force market in Shanghai and learn of economic and living conditions of such
under-privileged group as the unemployed as well as hotspots in employment at
present, thus trying to find out the real situation for the government and
making policies more considerate for people. From May 16th to 22nd, they are to
take out about 10,000 households from almost 300 village committees in 150
villages, towns and blocks from 18 districts and towns of Shanghai, and launch
"Sampling Investigation on Basic Situation of Urban Residents in 2004",
"Investigation on Urban Labor Force", "Follow-up Investigation on Unemployment
Rate in Urban Area" and "Investigation on Graduate Employment". Urban
investigation team from Shanghai Statistics Bureau is to take out 3000
households in all blocks and some towns from the 19 districts and towns of
Shanghai to launch "Sampling Investigation on Basic Situation of Urban Residents
in 2004" between June 1st and 20th, so as to find out the real situation of
information on family members, income, expenditure, consumption, education and
social security of urban residents in Shanghai. Method of the investigation is
investigators going into homes of the investigated and list of investigated
neighborhood committees is to be publicized on website of Shanghai Statistics
Bureau.
