Shanghai to establish traffic system for modern service zones
(05/05/2008)

Shanghai will establish a traffic system to relieve congestion in modern service zones, officials said yesterday at the working conference on the construction of modern service zones.

The system will help solve traffic jams by improving routes and constructing underpasses to connect buildings, which will make it safer for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The zones will be completed by 2010. Initial planning and relocation work for seven zones, including Shanghai International Automobile City in Jiading District, Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park in Pudong New Area and Qibao Town in Minghang District, have already begun.

The Shanghai Economy Committee, the Shanghai Construction and Transportation Commission and the Shanghai Urban Planning Administration Bureau jointly organized the research.
