(11.18.2011)

Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng met Peter Sands, CEO of Standard Chartered Group, and his colleagues in the VIP room of the Municipal Government Building on November 17.

Han said Shanghai is gearing up the construction of its international financial center in accordance with the national strategy. During the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), the city will make further progress in reform and opening. Enterprises of various sectors are welcome to take part in the city’s development.

Han said the Standard Chartered Group has contributed a lot to China’s financial reform and its efforts to provide innovative products and services for small and medium-sized enterprises are greatly appreciated.

Peter Sands thanked the Shanghai Government and the China Banking Regulatory Commission for their support. The Standard Chartered has operated in Shanghai for more than 150 years and its Shanghai headquarters has more staff than its global headquarters in London, he said.

Sands expressed his confidence in Shanghai’s role as an international financial center and said the Standard Chartered will soon open a new branch in Minhang District to provide services exclusively for small and medium-sized companies in China.
