Shanghai, Hamburg mayors stress cooperation

While meeting his Hamburg counterpart, Olaf Scholz, from Germany on November 16, Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng said Shanghai and Hamburg have been sister cities for 25 years and are cooperating closely in economy, trade, science and technology, and environmental protection.

He noted that during last year’s World Expo in Shanghai, the Germany Pavilion and the Hamburg House in the Urban Best Practices Area presented many new concepts and ideas for building a green city.

“Improving the city’s ecological environment is a major task for us. Shanghai needs to learn from Hamburg’s successful experiences,” Han said.

Scholz said both cities have made active efforts to expand the scope of cooperation and exchanges. “Hamburg and Shanghai share many similarities as an open port and they should cooperate more economically and culturally in the future,” he said.
