Which current polices reduce the Individual medical expenses for mental illness patients?
(02.21.2008)

If a mental-illness participant of the Basic Medical Insurance for Urban Employees of Shanghai sees a doctor in a dedicated Medical Insurance Mental Illness Prevention and Cure Institution, he/she can have his/her hospitalization expenses below the deductable of the Municipal Medical Insurance Fund reduced.

The standards for the reductions are:

(1) for currently-employed persons, 85% of the expenses below the deductable of the Municipal Medical Insurance Fund will be reduced, and 15% will be at their own private cost;

(2) for retirees, 92% of the expenses below the deductable of the Municipal Medical Insurance Fund will be reduced, and 8% will be at their own private cost.

The medical institution shall settle the incurred expenses according to the rules. It charges in cash and provides a receipt to the patient for the expenses paid at the patient’s own private cost, and the patient applies to the medical institution for an expense reduction with their medical expense(s) receipt.
