Why do patients easily catch colds, arthralgia, diarrhea or fungus infections during the rainy season in spring?

Some arthralgia is caused by heavy humidity in the air. Particularly, those patients with lumbar muscle strain, sprains, bone fractures or operative incisions, may suffer from aches in the above-mentioned parts and joints. During the rainy season in spring, such patients should keep warm and stay away from damp areas.

The arrival of the rainy season in spring is always accompanied by an increase in temperature. At this time, patients visiting clinics who suffer from bowel diseases increase more than during other seasons. Food is prone to becoming mildewed and can deteriorate under the circumstances of high temperature and humidity; once a deteriorated food is eaten, one can suffer from food poisoning. Thus, during the rainy season in spring, one should guarantee to store food carefully and prevent it from deterioration. The easily-mildewed food must be kept in a refrigerator, and food must be burned or cooked before eating; fresh food is the best option.

Fungus that can cause skin tinea (fungal skin infection) is extremely active in this season, so the morbidity of skin tinea increases correspondingly, especially around the feet, toes and palms of the hands. If it is not treated promptly, the tinea may spread to other parts of the body, developing into tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea manus or tinea versicolor. Moreover, the fungus can grow and reproduce in the human body, causing fungus pneumonia and so on. Thus, during the rainy season in spring, personal hygiene needs to be maintained, and good ventilation and the drying of one’s surroundings are also needed to be guaranteed. Once a fungus infection is found, the patient must receive prompt treatment.
