Han Zheng: Shanghai and Hong Kong are Preparing for the Third Round of Cooperation

On April 1, Han Zheng, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with the delegation headed by Dr. Charles Yeung, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC).

Han said that Shanghai and Hong Kong enjoy long term cooperation and close ties. Since the launch of the reform and opening-up policy, particularly the opening-up of Pudong, many Hong Kong companies have invested in the mainland, including Shanghai. CGCC has contributed a lot to the close ties between Shanghai and Hong Kong. Shanghai has drawn much upon the successful experience of Hong Kong in the course of development. As Shanghai is developing a service-led industrial structure, it will continue to learn from Hong Kong and improve market environment, legal framework and human resources for development of the service sector. Shanghai and Hong Kong are now vigorously preparing for the third round of cooperation. The comprehensive cooperation between the two international metropolitan cities will lead to a win-win result. Han also briefed the guests about the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ). He welcomes investment from Hong Kong business community in the FTZ and looks forward to their advice.

Dr. Yeung responded that as two service-led international metropolitan cities, Hong Kong and Shanghai are complementary to each other. Hong Kong businessmen are keen to participate in the development of the FTZ and CGCC is ready to make new contribution to further cooperation between the two cities.
