Han Zheng Meets Australian Prime Minister
05.01.2014

On April 11, Han Zheng, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, met with a delegation led by the Hon. Tony Abbot, Prime Minister of Australia, and extended a very warm welcome to his guests.

Han said that Shanghai’s close ties with Australia are underpinned by the two sides’ in-depth cooperation, both official and people-to-people, in economy, trade, technology, culture and education. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Shanghai and the State of Queensland, a series of activities will be carried out to further enhance Australia’s cooperation with China and in particular with Shanghai. In line with national strategies, Shanghai is now making an all-out effort to develop the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. In this process of deepening reform, we look forward to working with countries from across the world including Australia for a win-win outcome.

Abbot said that many strong win-win situations have been created between China and Australia and his delegation is the highest-level ever to leave Australia. The bilateral cooperation, which already enjoys great depth and breadth, should be extended into more areas. Australia pays close attention to the Free Trade Zone in Shanghai and wishes to take better advantage of it by having a free trade agreement with China as soon as possible.
