Han Zheng Meets Queen of Denmark

    On April 28, Han Zheng, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee,met with Her Majesty the Queen Margrethe II, and warmly welcomed the Danish delegation on behalf of 24 million Shanghai citizens.


    Han said that China and Denmark enjoy close cooperation and strong friendship. Many Chinese kids come to know Denmark by reading Anderson’s fairy tales, and the arrival of the Little Mermaid statue made Danish pavilion the most popular national pavilion during the Expo 2010 Shanghai China. Meanwhile, Shanghai has conducted frequent exchange with many places of Denmark, as represented by the in-depth cooperation in the shipping industry.


    Han went on to talk about the socio-economic development of Shanghai. The city today, as the queen sees it, is an epitome of China’s reform and opening up in the past 30-plus years. The ultimate purpose of economic development is to continuously improve people’s living standards, providing more benefits in, among others, education, healthcare and old-age care. The visit by the queen will further promote Denmark’s friendly exchange with China and in particular with Shanghai.


    Margrethe IIsaid that she has seen for herself the enormous step forward that China and Shanghai have taken, and the visit has deeply impressed her. Denmark and China have close trade ties. The queen hopes her visit can further boost the bilateral relationship as well as cooperation in all fields between the two countries.
