The 10th Shanghai International Youth Interactive Friendship Camp Opens

    Sponsored by the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Shanghai Youth Federation and organized by the Shanghai Youth Center, the 10th Shanghai International Youth Interactive Friendship Camp opened on July 15 in Shanghai. Wang Xiaoshu, Executive Vice Chairman of the Committee of Friendship with Foreign Countries of the CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee, attended the opening ceremony among consuls general, consular officials and other guests.

    This year marks the 10th anniversary of the camp. A total of 106 young people from 21 countries, namely Australia, Botswana, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Tunisia, the United Kingdom and the United States, were happily gathered by the Huangpu River to celebrate the 10th birthday of the camp.

    Young people of different colors, ethnicities and nationalities will spend ten joyful days together in the camp. They will have the chance to experience Chinese culture by participating in the Theme Show on Nations, “I Love Shanghai” International Youth Orienteering Contest and “A Bite of China” food tasting event. They will also visit the Chinese Art Museum and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. One-day homestay with local volunteer families will give these young people exposure to the customs of Shanghainese.

    With the theme of “Peace, Friendship, Future” and through a myriad of informative and engaging activities, Shanghai International Youth Interactive Camp encourages young people all over the world to become goodwill ambassadors and leverage the wisdom of youth for world peace and friendship.

    Since its launch in 2005, the camp has attracted over 900 youngsters from nearly 50 countries and regions and has been well recognized for its features of “Joy, Interaction, Friendship, Ambassador”. The Camp has played an instrumental role in deepening mutual understanding and exchange between young people in Shanghai and other countries.
