Ai Baojun Attends French National Day Reception

On July 14, the French Consulate General in Shanghai hosted a reception celebrating the French National Day. Vice Mayor Ai Baojun and about eight hundred guests were invited to the event. Before the ceremony, Vice Mayor Ai and French Consul General Emmanuel Lenain had a short meeting.

Ai said that France was the first western country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. In the past 50 years, China and France built up good cooperation relations. As a developed country, France is a global leader in many areas, such as engineering, science and technology, design and education. Shanghai stands ready to strengthen cooperation with France in all these areas. Ai also introduced the progress of institutional, administrative and legal reforms and pilot projects that have been implemented in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone, and encouraged France’s participation for deeper cooperation.

Lenain said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of France-China diplomatic relations. The French Consulate General has planned and organized various activities celebrating the history and preparing for the future. In order to promote people-to-people exchanges, France adopted the 48-hour-delivery new visa policy for Chinese citizens. Last years, France received 1.5 million Chinese tourists, and he hopes that this number will increase in the coming years.
