Yang Xiong Meets Singaporean Ambassador

    On October 13, Yang Xiong, Mayor of Shanghai, met with Stanley Loh, Ambassador of Singapore to China.

    Yang highlighted the frequent exchanges between Shanghai and Singapore, noting that Singapore’s experience in developing ports, industrial parks and smart city have been very inspirational to Shanghai, who has a lot to learn from Singapore’s good practices in areas such as science and technology, culture, education and social governance as well. Shanghai stands ready to strengthen exchange and deepen cooperation on all fronts with Singapore in the process of developing its pilot free trade zone (FTZ) and building itself into an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center. Yang also said that the development of the pilot FTZ is well under way with the launch of a series of reform measures regarding investment administration, trade regulation and the opening up of the service sector. Shanghai will further deepen its reform and opening up in line with the guideline of the Central Government, and opens its arms to companies from Singapore and around the world that seek new opportunities in the FTZ.

    Loh appreciated the important role Shanghai has been playing in the bilateral relations between Singapore and China. Singapore and Shanghai have enjoyed constant progress in their cooperation and exchange, and now the Shanghai FTZ has become a new platform of such partnership. Singapore is more than happy to take an active part in the FTZ development, share its experiences and seek new opportunities.

    Ong Siew Gay, Consul General of Singapore in Shanghai was also present at the meeting.
