11.26.2014

At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, a delegation consisting of 13 members headed by Mary Jane Wallner, chairman of the Fiscal Committee of the New Hampshire State Congress, visited Shanghai from November 15 to 18.

Chairman Wallner said that China and the United States have maintained ties for more than 60 years. Since they forged a relationship 15 years ago, the US National Conference of State Legislatures and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries have had close relations. The current visit is highly beneficial to the promotion of exchange and cooperation between China and the US in the local educational area. The Chinese and American primary and secondary schools have many cooperation projects and exchanges, and the two sides should steadily open up new areas of cooperation, strengthen cooperation, deepen mutual understanding and complement each other, bringing our exchange and relations to a new high.

During the delegation’s stay in the city, Zhou Yajun, deputy director-general of the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and vice-president of the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, met with the delegation. The delegation also had discussions with the Science, Culture, Health and Sports Committee of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee and the College of Education of Shanghai Normal University on basic education, compulsory education policies & development and the operation of PISA project in Shanghai. The American guests also visited Shanghai Experimental School and Pingnan Road Primary School in Minhang district, where they toured teaching facilities, observed open classes and interacted with the teachers and students.
