Yang Xiong Meets AIA CEO and President Mark Edward Tucker
11.19.2014

On November 13, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong met with Mark Edward Tucker, CEO and president of American International Assurance (AIA) Group Limited, and his party.

Mayor Yang said the relations between AIA and Shanghai date back to many years ago. AIA was established in Shanghai and during the city’s reform and opening up and building of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, AIA has seized opportunities for development. Over the past year and more since the setting up of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, we have introduced a series of institutional innovations, and in the area of finance we have made it a priority the exploration of trans-border use of renminbi and interest marketization, which is a big step forward in financial reform and also gave an impetus to the building of Shanghai into an international financial center. We welcome AIA to, giving play to its professional strength and rich experience, actively participate in the building of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and of Shanghai into an international financial center, introduce more types of insurance and new types of service, thus gaining greater growth while promoting insurance market building. We will make efforts to build a better environment that stresses more internationalization, marketization and rule of law for the businesses.

Mr. Mark Tucker spoke highly of the new achievements in institutional innovations at the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and said China’s insurance industry has boundless opportunities and potentials and Shanghai’s reform and development prospects can be expected. AIA will closely follow and actively participate in the building of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and of Shanghai into an international financial center.
