Jin Xingming Meets Former Foreign Minister of Spain

At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Angel Moratinos, former Spanish Foreign Minister and his delegation visited Shanghai from January 18 to 20. Jin Xingming, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, met with the Spanish guests during their stay in the city.

Jin Xingming said that Mr. Moratinos is an old friend of the Chinese people, who made contributions to China-Spain friendly cooperation and helped advance the relations between the two countries to a new stage during his term as the foreign minister of Spain. During the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, the Spanish pavilion and the exhibitions of Madrid and Barcelona left a deep impression on the visitors. In recent years, China and Spain have frequently exchanged high-level visits and have conducted cooperation in the political, economic, trade, cultural and scientific & technological areas. China has become Spain’s largest trade partner outside the EU. As China’s economic and financial center, Shanghai will make more contributions to China-Spain cooperation. As sister cities, Shanghai and Barcelona have also had extensive exchanges in various fields. He looked forward to the further growth of sister-city bonds amidst the vigorous development of Sino-Spanish relations.

Mr. Moratinos noted that Spain-China relations have seen rapid development in recent years, which is partly attributable to Shanghai’s dynamic and fast economic development. He expressed thanks to the Shanghai government for its support and help to the Spanish pavilion during the World Expo 2010. He also gave his host an introduction to the Smart City Expo 2015, sponsored by the Barcelona Conference & Exhibition Center.
