Bahamas has beautiful islands and rich tourist resources, which were put on an impressive display at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Shanghai and Bahamas have considerable potential for cooperation. In recent years, we have been striving to build our city into an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center. Shanghai not only has a concentration of major financial markets in the country, but also has vigorously pushed forward the financial development through the building of a pilot free trade zone here. An important air transportation hub and one of the important venues of departure for outbound travels of Chinese citizens, Shanghai will have more exchange and cooperation with Bahamas in tourism, education and infrastructure. We welcome Bahamas to hold promotional activities in Shanghai, and we also will encourage Shanghai’s businesses to go to Bahamas to invest and its people for tours.

Prime Minister Perry Christie gave the host an introduction to his country’s economic and social development. He said that Shanghai is a world-renowned commercial and trade city and Bahamas can learn from Shanghai’s practice of planning for its long-term urban development. Tourism and financial service are the two pillar industries of Bahamas. He hoped that his visit will expand cooperation between Bahamas and China and Shanghai.
