Bai Shaokang Attends National Day Reception at Indian Consulate General, Shanghai

    On January 26, the consulate general of India in Shanghai held a National Day reception in celebration of the 66th Republic Day of India. Bai Shaokang, vice-mayor of Shanghai and some 200 guests attended the event on invitation. Before the celebrations started, the vice-mayor and Indian Consul General Naveen Srivastava had a brief meeting.

    Vice-Mayor Bai Shaokang said that China and India are friendly neighbors and countries with large populations, a long history and splendid civilizations, whose traditional friendship dates back to ancient times. The pursuit by China and India of peace and development based on their common interests will benefit the two countries and make a contribution to the world. The Chinese government and Shanghai give great importance to developing friendly relations with India. The twinning of Shanghai and Mumbai last year stands a symbol that the two cities have mounted a new step in exchange and cooperation, which could not have been possible without the efforts of the consul general and the consulate general of India. The Shanghai government will continue to provide the consulate general of India, Indian businesses in Shanghai and Indian nationals working, studying and residing in the city with sound services and protection.

    Consul General Naveen Srivastava said that India attaches high importance to the development of amicable relations with Shanghai. Since President Xi Jinping’s successful visit to India last year, India-China relations have developed by leaps and bounds showing a good momentum in bilateral exchange. Last year marked the Year of Friendly Exchange between India and China, during which the Indian consulate general held varied activities rich in content. As this year and next will be the India Tourism Year and the China Tourism Year respectively, the Indian consulate general will continue to help bring about visits to India by delegations from the Shanghai government departments concerned and social organizations and artists. Also, the consul general thanked the Shanghai government and the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office for actively promoting exchange and cooperation with India and he called for the two sides to further deepen their economic, trade, cultural and people-to-people exchange and cooperation.
