06.25.2015
On June 20, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong met with Cameroon Prime Minister Philémon Yang and his delegation, expressing warm welcome to the prime minister on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the people of Shanghai.

Mayor Yang Xiong gave the Cameroon guests an account of Shanghai’s development since the start of reform and opening up, particularly the building of the city into an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center and of a scientific & technological innovation center. He said that China-Cameroon relations have had smooth development. Cameroon participated in the World Expo Shanghai in 2010, which promoted the mutual understanding and friendship between Shanghai and Cameroon, and the national football team of Cameroon is a favorable team with football fans in Shanghai. At present, Shanghai is pushing forward its building of an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center and of a scientific & technological innovation center with a global reach. In the process, Shanghai would like very much to have friendly exchange and practical cooperation with other countries and share with African countries, including Cameroon, our experience in reform and development and boost our economic and trade exchange and cooperation. We will actively encourage Shanghai enterprises to go to Cameroon to invest and take part in the development there. Also, we will, giving play to the role of the “four centers”, provide support and help as we can to Cameroon’s economic and social development.

Prime Minister Philémon Yang said that Cameroon and China have maintained friendly relations for long and have had very good exchange and cooperation. Cameroon will learn from the experience Shanghai has accumulated in different areas since the start of reform and opening up. He sincerely welcomes Chinese businesses, including Shanghai enterprises, to invest and start business in Cameroon and hoped that his visit will mark the beginning of an era for fruitful cooperation between Cameroon and Shanghai.
