Han Zheng Meets President of Cyprus
    On October 17, Han Zheng, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, met with H.E. Nicos Anastasiades, president of Cyprus, and his party, extending warm welcome to the distinguished Cyprian guests on behalf of the 24 million people of Shanghai.
    Han Zheng said that China and Cyprus are traditionally friendly countries, whose relations have developed smoothly since the establishment of their diplomatic ties. The implementation of China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative has bound the two countries more closely together. As China’s economic center, Shanghai is an epitome of the country’s reform and opening up. He believed that His Excellency’s visit to China and Shanghai will give him a better understanding of China’s great changes since the start of its reform and opening up drive and promote further the friendly exchange and cooperation between the two countries and between Shanghai and various cities in Cyprus.
    President Nicos Anastasiades called China’s achievements in development impressive. As a member state of the European Union, Cyprus would like to further boost its friendly relations with China and play its role in enhancing Europe-China strategic mutual trust and maintaining Europe-China relations. Cyprus supports China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative. Through his visit, he looked forward to more bilateral cooperation in various areas and greater development of Cyprus-China relations.
    Chen Fengxiang, vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Liu Xinsheng, Chinese ambassador to Cyprus, and Yin Hong, member of the Standing Committee and secretary general of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, were present at the meeting.
