Han Zheng Meets US Deputy Secretary of State

    Han Zheng, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with United States Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his party on October 9, 2015.
     
    Han Zheng said that President Xi Jinping paid a successful visit to the United States last month and the new type of relationship between China and the United States as major countries has achieved new progress. China is firmly deepening reform across the board and expanding opening up. In accordance with the requirement and plan by the central authority, Shanghai, a city at the forefront of China’s reform and opening up drive, is propelling the reforms in a steady and orderly fashion, and by making innovations, it is trying to bring economic reforms in better conformity with market orientation, international practices and China’s actual conditions. After two years of building, China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone has made significant progress. The first “Negative List” for foreign investment in New China has been born in Shanghai, and the FTZ is continuing its various reforms. Shanghai has maintained close exchange with various parts of the United States, including its sister cities San Francisco and Chicago, and many American businesses have been successful in Shanghai. A number of members of the International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the mayor of Shanghai (IBLAC) are elite of the US business community. We expect to expand our practical cooperation in various areas on the basis of further enhancing our mutual understanding.
     
    Antony Blinken remarked that the US side takes a high view of the fruitful visit to the United States by President Xi Jinping recently, and he came to China to work with the Chinese side to implement the results from the Washington talks between the heads of the two countries. He believed this will be beneficial not only to the peoples of the two countries but also to countries around the world. Shanghai is a vibrant city and its entrepreneurship and innovative spirit are impressive. He is highly hopeful that the America companies will find new opportunities for cooperation and growth here in Shanghai.
     
    Tu Guangshao, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and executive vice-mayor of Shanghai, and Max Sieben Baucus, US ambassador to China, were present at the meeting.
