Shanghai Holds National Day Reception Celebrating the 66th Anniversary of Founding of the People’s Republic of China

    The Shanghai Municipal People’s Government (SMPG) hosted a National Day reception marking the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at Shanghai Exhibition Center on September 30. Han Zheng, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Yang Xiong, deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and mayor of Shanghai, joined the distinguished Chinese and foreign guests in celebrating the birthday of the People’s Republic of China.
     
    At the brilliantly lit grand central hall of Shanghai Exhibition Center, where strikingly big Chinese characters “National Day” and “1949-2015” in red were hung high on the wall and a joyous atmosphere was permeated, the Chinese and foreign guests exchanged festive greetings. The reception started amidst the solemn national anthem at 6:00 pm. On behalf of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the people of Shanghai, Mayor Yang Xiong expressed festive greetings and sincere thanks to all the friends who have shown care for and given support to Shanghai’s development.
     
    Yin Yicui, chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress (SMPC), Wu Zhiming, president of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Ying Yong, deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, attended the reception. Tu Guangshao, member of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and executive vice-mayor of Shanghai, presided over the reception. Dong Yunhu, Xu Zezhou, Jiang Ping, Yin Hong and He Weidong, members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and other responsible members of the SMPC, SMPG and CPPCC Shanghai Committee were present at the reception.
     
    Also present at the reception were principal members of Shanghai Higher People’s Court, Shanghai People’s Procuratorate, armed forces stationed in Shanghai and armed police corps of Shanghai, some veteran comrades and representatives of model workers. Guests invited to the reception also included foreign friends who have received honors of “Honorary Citizen of Shanghai” and Shanghai Magnolia Awards, heads of foreign consulates and their spouses, resident foreign journalists, heads of representative offices of sister cities, some foreign experts working in Shanghai, representatives of foreign business offices and companies in Shanghai, personages from Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, Taiwan compatriots and overseas Chinese.
