Yang Xiong Meets President of Mauritania

    On September 11, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong met with His Excellency Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, president of Mauritania, and his party. On behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the people of Shanghai, he extended warm welcome to the distinguished Mauritanian guests.
     
    Yang Xiong said this year marks the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mauritania and China-Mauritania relations and cooperation and exchange have developed steadily for many years, for which he expressed thanks to the president for his contributions. He went on to thank the Mauritanian side for its support and help to the Shanghai enterprises that have invested in the country and say that Shanghai will play a bigger role in the cooperation and exchange between China and Africa and between China and Mauritania. At present, Shanghai is stepping up building the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, which will provide a new platform for the interflow between the business communities of the two countries. We will encourage more Shanghai enterprises to go to invest in Mauritania and participate in the country’s construction, and Shanghai would like to share with the Mauritanian side its experience in urban construction and development. He believed His Excellency’s visit will push forward the friendly China-Mauritania relations and deepen cooperation in more areas.
     
    President Aziz said Shanghai has always been China’s important channel through which to open up to the outside world and a witness to China’s revitalization, development and prosperity. We warmly welcome Chinese enterprises, including Shanghai businesses, to invest in our country and we will provide a better business environment for them.
     
    Wu Dong, Chinese ambassador to Mauritania, and the Mauritanian ambassador to China were present at the meeting.
