Delegation of Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association Visits Shanghai

    Komaki Kurihara, a renowned Japanese actress, who is vice-president of Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association, led a delegation to Shanghai on May 12-13.

    Jing Ying, vice-counsel of the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, met with the delegation.On behalf of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, She extended welcome to Komaki Kurihara, a performing artist highly popular with the Chinese people, to Shanghai again andher congratulations on the 60th anniversary of Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association.

    When learning that this year also marks the 60th anniversary of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Komaki Kurihara offered her hearty congratulations. She said it is significant that both organizations celebrate 60th birthday this year and cultural exchange has a bigger role to play in a time when the two countries are encountering difficulties in their political relations.

    During the delegation’s stay in Shanghai, Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries arranged for Komaki Kurihara to meet with Liu Guangning, a well-knownformer dubbing actor with Shanghai Dubbing Film Studio, who dubbed in Chinese Komaki Kurihara’s roles in films. The two artists were profoundly excited when recalling their meeting more than 30 years ago.

    In an interview with SMG’s Shanghai Stories, Komaki Kurihararecalled her first visit to China with a Japanese film delegation in 1979, when she brought here Ai to Shi, a moviein which she stars, plus Sandakan 8,which had previously been shown to the public in China. The two films inquite different styles were a hit in China and a startof her indissoluble bond with the country. Shanghai is a city she is familiar with most and has been to many times, performing, filming, attending Shanghai International Film Festival. She cherishes beautiful memories of it. Whenever she recalls hermeetings in those years with Ba Jin at his residence and with such artists of the older generation as Zhao Dan, Bai Yang and XieJin, she is so excited and full of emotions.

    During the interview, she repeated several times that she owes her popularity with Chinese audiences to Liu Guangning’s perfect dubbing art. She is grateful to Mr. Liu Guangning.
