Yang Xiong Meets President of Peru

    On September 15, Yang Xiong, mayor of Shanghai, met with H.E. Pedro Pablo Kucynski Godard, president of Peru, and his delegation, extending warm welcome to the distinguished Peruvian guests on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the people of Shanghai.

    Mayor Yang Xiong said China and Peru have seen smooth development of their relations and frequent exchange of high-level visits. In recent years, the two countries have signed the free trade agreement and established comprehensive strategic partnership, which have laid an important foundation for further cooperation and exchange between Shanghai and Peru. Shanghai and Lima, the capital city of Peru, have signed letters of intent on cooperation in trade, transportation, tourism and other areas and their cooperation has been proceeding smoothly. He believed the Peruvian president’s visit will boost friendly cooperation and exchange between the two sides. Shanghai will put into effect the results from talks between the leaders of the two countries and play a bigger role in China-Peru amicable cooperation. As a window of China’s opening up and a gateway for international economic and trade cooperation, Shanghai has been striving for an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center and has made steady progress in the process. The building of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone has promoted investment, trade facilitation and financial opening up and innovation. He welcomed countries in the world, including Peru, to use the platform of Shanghai FTZ to conduct investment and trade and achieve better development. In the light of its industrial advantages, Shanghai would like to cooperate with Peru in more areas.

    President Pedro Pablo Kucynski Godard said he was most pleased to come toChina and Shanghai, his first foreign visit after he took office as president of Peru, and he congratulated Shanghai on its great achievements. On this China trip, he wished to know more about and learn from the development experience of China and Shanghai and promotecooperation and exchange in agricultural, mining, telecommunications, cultural and other areas. Peru would like to deepen economic and trade cooperation with Shanghai.
