Yang Xiong Meets Mayor of Prague

On August 31, Yang Xiong, mayor of Shanghai, met with Adriana Krnácová, mayor of Prague, the Czech Republic, and a delegation she led.

Mayor Yang Xiong said the friendly relations and exchange and cooperation between China and Czech have seen considerable development in recent years. Shanghai and Prague have carried out a series of fruitful cooperation in economy, trade, health, aviation, culture and education. Prague, long known as the “most beautiful city in Europe”, has experience in cultural heritage and in the protection of historical architecture that Shanghai should learn from. At present, Shanghai’s building of itself into an international economic, financial, trade and shipping center is progressing smoothly. In order to further deepen reform and expand opening up, Shanghai is also building the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and a globally influential science & technology innovation center and this creates new opportunities for more cooperation between the two cities. As one of China’s earliest cities opening to the outside world, Shanghai would like to conduct economic and trade cooperation and boost friendly ties with cities around the world including Prague. We will encourage more Shanghai enterprises to go to invest in Czech and also welcome Czech businesses to enter China market through Shanghai. Based on the MOU signed by the two sides, Shanghai and Prague will strengthen cooperation and exchange in the smart city, medical and health and tourism areas and work together to meet common challenges in urban development.

Mayor Adriana Krnácovásaid Czech-China relations have developed smoothly and there have been frequent friendly exchanges between the local governments of the two countries. Prague expects to have more friendly exchange and cooperation with Shanghai. She was pleased to see Shanghai’s achievements in smart city development and other areas. Prague wishes to have more pragmatic cooperation with Shanghai in the economic, trade, urban construction and tourism areas.
