Yang Xiong Meets Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, France

    Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong met with French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault and his delegation on November 1.

    Mayor Yang Xiong said there has been long-lasting friendship between China and France and our cooperation in various areas has steadily deepened. Shanghai and Marseille and Rhone-Alpes Region are sister cities, and many French businesses have taken part in Shanghai’s construction and development since the start of reform and opening up in China. In building China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone in the last three years, Shanghai has focused on investment and trade facilitation and financial opening up and innovation and has scored a series of achievements in reform, which has offered new opportunities to foreign businesses in Shanghai, including those from France. We will furtherboost reform and opening up, link up with international practices and create a business environment more stressing the rule by law, international orientation and convenience. At present, Shanghai is speeding up its building of a globally influential science & technology innovation center and this development goal, which bears on the future of Shanghai, has opened up new space for more cooperation and exchange between Shanghai and France. He hoped the two sides will furthercooperation and exchange between universities, science research institutions and enterprises and extend cooperation in the bio-pharmaceutical, aviation and space, culturaland educational areas, and strive for more achievements.

    Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault praised Shanghai as a beautiful and vibrant city and said Shanghai is the Chinese city that has the most French nationals and businesses. He is pleased that many French companies have established research and development centers here and are prepared to increase investment, which fully shows their confidence in its future development. There is huge potential for cooperation between France and China, and France wishes to deepen cooperation and exchange with Shanghai in the urban construction, medical and health, cultural and art areas.
