Han Zheng Meets New Ambassador of Canada to China

    On April 10, Han Zheng, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, met with H.E. John McCallum, new Canadian ambassador to China, and his party.

    Han Zheng said that in recent years China and Canada have had a frequent exchange of high-level visits and President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have reached important consensus on deepening the friendly relations between the two countries. Shanghai has maintained close exchanges with different parts of Canada, and Shanghai and Montreal, the new Canadian ambassador’s hometown and a sister city of Shanghai for more than 30 years, have conducted in-depth cooperation in various areas,and many Canadian businesses have done well in Shanghai. He expected the Canadian ambassador to gain through this visit a better understanding of China and Shanghai and to further promote the friendly relationship between China and Canada and between Shanghai and various regions in Canada.

    Ambassador John McCallum said he will promote further the relations between Canada and China during his term of office in China, particularly cooperation in the economic, trade, investment, environmental protection and tourism areas and he is gratified to see long and sound cooperation existing between different cities in Canada and Shanghai in sectors such as business, culture, education, health, environmental protection and transportation. He will make his contribution to the enhancement of Canada-China friendship and cooperation between Canada and Shanghai.
